Since 1965, Poly-Ice hf., has been producing trawl doors, starting with the traditional V-shaped bottom trawl doors. The company's development and research policy has led to the production of different types of high-quality trawl doors, in response to skippers' requests and different fishing conditions throughout the world.

The company's quality policy for products development and improvement is a very important factor. In close co-operation with demanding skippers through out the world, leads and suggestions are followed for improving quality and performance.

The development of new trawl doors

In past years, Poly-Ice hf. has developed computerized tests of the hydrodynamic effects of the trawl door designs, carried out by the engineering faculty at the University of Iceland .

Different designs of each trawl door model are tested at the University's computer program for best hydrodynamic results. When the best result has been achieved, small scale models of the two or three of the best outcome are made and tested in flumetanks with small scale trawls for comparing results and effects. Once there is satisfaction with the result, a full size prototype of the doors is made and tested with a full size trawl under normal fishing conditions.

At the end of this process, new Poly-Ice ® trawl doors are ready for sale. The result of this co-operation, is probably the most modern and effective trawl doors available today.
