We’re proud to be part of the Hampidjan Group, founded in Reykjavík, Iceland in 1934. Born from a need to supply high-quality fishing gear during a global shortage, Hampidjan has grown to become one of the world’s leading producers of ropes, nets, and fishing equipment, now expanding into offshore, maritime, lifting, and industrial solutions.

Nelson Branch
Located at 82 Vickerman Street, Port Nelson, our Nelson branch has been serving New Zealand’s industries since 1997.

We offer a full range of services, including custom net making and design, rope and wire splicing, rigging, specialised helicopter line services, heavy-duty swaging, and testing and certification.
Our certified hydraulic test bed has a 100-tonne capacity and a 14.5-metre bed length, ideal for tensile testing and proof loading. We also operate a 600-tonne swaging press capable of handling wire rope from 1.5 to 34 millimetres in diameter.
Our friendly and knowledgeable team is ready to assist with tailored solutions across marine, industrial, agricultural, and commercial sectors.
Timaru Branch
Established in 1999 in the Timaru Port area, our Timaru branch is a leading provider of net making and rigging services in the South Island.

Established in 2025 near the Lyttelton tunnel, our Christchurch branch is New Zealand’s newest provider of net making and rigging solutions.

Our History
In the spring of 1934, amidst the Great Depression, a group of thirteen captains and engineers founded a production company in Reykjavík to manufacture trawl nets, tows, and fishing lines for the Icelandic fishing fleet. This initiative addressed a significant shortage of these materials for fishing gear between the wars.
Since then, Hampiðjan has grown and prospered, becoming one of the largest fishing equipment companies in the world. The production of nets and ropes has always been the company’s core business. Over the past two decades, we have further expanded our market advantage with revolutionary products and innovative solutions for the fishing and oil industries, including a variety of ultra-tow designs that are stronger than steel.
